Meet Janet Carlisle

Janet Carlisle focuses her expressive and creative energy to produce fanciful and innovative collage constructions with imaginary creatures using fibers, papers, and paint.

Descended from four Lithuanian immigrants she lived the first part of her life in Springdale, Pennsylvania.

Janet studied art at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Carnegie Mellon University, and Chatham University. She holds a masters degree in Art Therapy from Seton Hill University and is a Registered – Board Certified Art Therapist.

Janet is a member of the American Art Therapy Association, the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Society of Artists, and the Western Pennsylvania Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

While serving as chairperson of the Lithuanian Nationality Room at the University of Pittsburgh’s Cathedral of Learning, she is currently illustrating a coloring book that will encompass motifs from all thirty-two nationality rooms.

Janet has established and directs the Open Art Studio at the Springdale United Presbyterian Church where she leads free art expression groups weekly, for children and adults. She facilitates a weekly “Mindfulness and Art Therapy” group at the Pennsylvania Organization for Women in Early Recovery located in Pittsburgh.

Janet is currently working on a children’s book which she has written and illustrated, using gouache, water color, colored pencil and ink. She has exhibited and sold her work throughout the United States and in England and works out of her studio at home in Verona where she lives with her husband David and cat Frieda.
