Introducing Sam Tanner

Vocalist, multi-­instrumentalist and producer, Sam Tanner cut his teeth in bands at the age of 12, and now over twenty years on, has provided accompaniment for some of Rock’s greatest names, including The Faces, Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Pete Townsend & Roger Daltrey (The Who), Jeff Beck, Mike Rutherford (Genesis), Paul Carrack, Mick Hucknall (Simply Red) Paul Young and Duffy.

Hailing from an estate in South West London, Sam grew up on a diet of Soul, Motown and Reggae. His love for rhythm & groove began early-­on in life, playing drums in bands and small theatre productions whilst still a school boy – soon after, Sam’s progression towards piano and guitar became pivotal to his writing/singing career, and in 1996 he signed a publishing deal with Sony Music, working for various signed artists, TV and radio, all before the age of 16.

Sam has provided backing vocals for pop artists Nadine Coyle (Girls Aloud) and Tulisa, and in the last three years has recorded and performed on sell-­‐out tours, as lead vocalist with new 6-­piece funk/soul outfit, Brother Strut, who’s members have collectively sold over half a billion albums
worldwide, Their debut album ‘First Strut Is The Deepest’ reached number 2 in the UK iTunes charts, with 10/10 reviews from Blues & Soul magazine.

Sam’s first solo EP, Strength In Numbers, was released Feb 2017.

    Very interesting article. Nice to read about artist’s background, influences & interests. I can vouch for ‘Strength in Numbers’…all tracks are great but if I had to choose one it would be “People”. In the 70’s they called it “blue-eyed soul’ (AWB) & this man has it! Congrats

    Very talented artist. Sam has tremendous feel for music, his keyboard skills, playing bass in the left hand are quite unique. Strength in Numbers is a wonderful varied EP. I agree that People is special, thoughtful lyrics beautifully expressed.
