Singer-songwriter and producer Sincerely Wilson talks influences and the creative process behind latest release ‘June’

Sincerely Wilson

Sincerely Wilson is a singer, songwriter and producer hailing from north London, UK. Since releasing two EPs and a handful of self-produced singles, he has steadily built and created a sound that celebrates his love of music. He’s already performed sold-out headline shows, and his live performances have garnered praise and support from a number of artists, helping him gain almost 100,000 followers on TikTok.

What or who inspired you to begin a career in music?

My Mum is a huge fan of music and played a lot of great tunes whilst I was growing up. Artists like Bob Marley, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey were part of the daily rotation. Our Price was a popular chain of record stores at the time and was relatively close to our house. We were there as often as 2–3 days a week and were often among the first to purchase the latest release. This shaped my voice and taste in music. I was committed to learning each lyric and melody before we purchased the next cassette tape/Cd.

What differs you and your sound from other artists in the music industry?

My Story. We are all unique. For me every song, every lyric, every melody is intentional and gives insight into life through my eyes/ears.

Your new single, ‘June’ is out now. Can you please describe the creative process and inspiration behind the release?

‘June’ was written along with my friends Yves Fernandez and Jake Edwards-Wood. The inspiration came from the idea of seeing light in darkness. We began writing it at a time when Covid cases in London were through the roof. It was during winter and grey but we wanted to look forward to better days. That is what ‘June’ stands for. Summer, warmth and good vibes.

Throughout your musical career, have you experienced any ‘wow’ moments?

Yes, supporting Jessie J on tour was a career highlight for me. It was incredible seeing/hearing sold-out crowds sing my music back to me. A dream.

What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue this career?

Have fun! Don’t take things too seriously. Be honest. Let creativity work through you (read The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron).
