Meet Katie Borkin

Katie Samantha Borkin was born in England in 1993 and as a child was inspired by films and had a love of the arts.

In her teens, she brought the two mediums together and went on to study animation at Norwich university of the arts to being one step closer to fulfilling her passion of working in the film and animation industry. Her goal ultimately to be a part of creating the amazing stories and visuals you see on screen.

How do you focus your time?

I currently work as a freelance artist and animator in the Norfolk countryside. Working digitally, I focus my time on creating concept illustration, character designs, and animations. In the last year, I’ve created some book illustrations, animated music videos for local bands and taken part in competitions and had some of my work exhibited by Pop my mind.

Where do you draw your inspiration for your work?

I take a lot of inspiration from the Fantasy and Sci-Fiction genres and surrealism was a big influence in my style when I was studying art at college.

A big part of my process is to mix different genres together to see what the old and the new can do to style and the story it can tell. Furthermore, I like my work to catch people’s attention which is probably why my art can be so colorful with a lot of contrast.

The overall result of a piece comes down to when I like the image I’ve created and I am regularly looking at other artists styles and learning new process’s to better myself as an artist.

What are you currently working on?

I am trying to focus my work on more specific themes that include issues on climate change, wildlife and wellbeing and taking part in projects that encourage change.

Being an artist and animator I’m aware that the mediums have the power to attract and engage people’s attention and to be able to use these mediums to send messages out, I feel it’s my duty to use my skills to do so.
