Introducing Isabela

Isabela was born in Lima, Peru, to a Swiss-American father and Chilean mother. At age 3, her family moved to Miami, Florida, where she grew up steeped in rock’n’roll, jazz, pop, urban and Cuban music.

Trained in musical theater and the classical mezzo-soprano repertoire, she studied filmmaking in New York City, where she became obsessed with tango, which she would sing in bars in downtown Manhattan.

Her obsession with travelling brought her to Paris in 2006 and one day, in 2007, on a flight, she suddenly heard “songs out of nowhere” and started to write music and lyrics.

In 2012, while living in Paris, she completed her first 4-track EP entitled simply “Isabela – Extended Play”. She subsequently released the tracks “Gentle Man” and “Mer” on iTunes.

Girl w/ No Country is her debut album. Each song as a tribute to many places she’s loved including Brazil, Argentina, Easter Island and to folk and rock music from the United States.

“Canção de Mariana” is a simple bossa nova tune. The energetic “Proud” is an indie folk anthem. “Sau Sau” is her tribute to a Polynesian courtship dance. “Girl with no Country” – the title track – is the most rock influenced song.

She has lived in Sri Lanka, the US, China, France, England and currently lives in Chile, where she collaborated with local musicians to make this eclectic compendium of musical memories.

Isabela has also opened for Paolo Nutini in Santiago, Chile on April 25th at Teatro Nescafé.

“Girl with no country” is available on iTunes.
