Infatuated with the unconscious mind: Meet artist Bethany Freer

Infatuated with the unconscious mind, artist Bethany Freer creates work as a “Catalyst”; tools that project her own and the audience’s latent mind. Drawing from both art therapy and automatic methods, the artist aims to manifest and visualise these thoughts to better understand and deal with the self and mental health.

Currently studying a Fine Art degree, the artist enriches her practise with historical context; Surrealism and Psycho analysis playing a huge role in how her work is created.

Automatic drawing being the basis of all her work, the artist uses this technique to create authentic abstract gestures which seem to morph and reveal different visuals depending on the individual viewer.

Interactive and always changing, the work documents the individual mind and aims to help people who may suffer with mental health to better understand how they think.
