Introducing upcoming London-based artist, Leena Ojala

Born in Germany, Leena spent her early childhood in Hong Kong and then Essex; a cultural upbringing that would later prove an excellent influence on her artistic persona. Leena Ojala is an upcoming London-based artist whose genre is a fusion of contemporary alternative, indie, soul and electronica. Her style mixes dark lyrics and 80s infused vibes.

It was when she moved to London, aged 17 where she immersed herself into music, with strong female vocalists including Stevie Nicks, London Grammar and Kate Bush all being her inspiration when she was experimenting with her sound.

Leena relocated to Berlin for a short while where she was embraced by a city renowned for its anarchic creativity. She spent a number of months gathering new influences from the city’s vibrant music scene.

On returning to London she went straight into a studio and recorded her debut EP called ‘EP1’ – an impressive debut made up of three original songs of melancholic electronica set against Leena’s emotive vocals. ‘Why’, ‘Your Tears’ and ‘No Escape’ – are haunting, affecting and powerful. The EP also features a remix of ‘Why’ by the much feted Mancunian producer D/R/U/G/S.

Leena recently released her latest single and a video of ‘Paper Heart’, which was covered by the Atwood Magazine and Ear Milk.

Leena has been collaborating with other producers and is about to release a four-track EP at the end of November 2017; the release date for this has been set to 24th November 2017. Ahead of the EP release in November, Leena will release two singles from her EP.

Leena is currently performing as a solo acoustic act. However, she loves to mix things up, and also performs with a guitarist as an acoustic duo as a separate format. She has received previous press coverage from the likes of The 405, The Fader, Clash Magazine, Idol Magazine and the Unsigned Guide.
