Emerging UK musical duo, NULA release new single and video ‘Mutual’

Goldsmiths graduates and New Cross natives NULA (Luke Osborne and Aradjoa Gee) are an emerging duo creating South East London-oriented alternative, bittersweet R’n’B.

London-born Aradjoa started singing at her local gospel choir in church, before briefly collaborating with Stones’ Throw Records crew RocketNumbernine. She would perform her first gig at Boiler Room alongside Neneh Cherry. A suitably hyper-cool introduction for a stunning new emerging talent.

Luke, a Bristol-born drummer and multi-instrumentalist who discovered his father’s collection of synths before making his journey to London, would go on to study Pop Music alongside heavyweight talent James Blake, Rosie Lowe, and Katy B.

Although on different courses, the duo were introduced to each other and collaborated on a series of projects before forming NULA in early 2016. Having previously worked with friend and cult producer Kwes (Solange), the release of ‘Mutual’ however, sets the tone of things moving forward, the pair writing, arranging and producing the track themselves. A notable combination of style and serious technical chops mark the duo out against the backdrop of London offerings.

Speaking on the track, Luke and Aradjoa state: “We wrote ‘Mutual’ from our experiences of standing up against the grain of society and dismissing what people often tell you what you can and can’t do. It’s about standing firm in the face of opposition and overcoming sometimes overwhelming feelings of vulnerability.”

Having already garnered tastemaker acclaim from the likes of NTS Radio & BBC Introducing for their track ‘Us’ earlier this year, ‘Mutual’ marks a long-awaited and exciting return for the inner-city duo. A metallic, classy and polished new offering keeps the excitement levels around this new act notably high.
