Self-taught multi-instrumentalist Adam French drops new track and visuals for ‘The Only Living Thing’

Adam French, a self-taught multi-instrumentalist from Cheshire, creates songs of depth, and honesty. Growing up in Congleton in the North West (between Manchester & Stoke) Adam cut his teeth on the local gig circuit before the opportunities of the capital lured him to London, where he now lives.

Following two EP releases – including a viral cover of Walkmen’s ‘The Rat’ – Adam put himself on the radars of a diverse number of icons, from Dua Lipa to Tony Hawk. He would also immediately pick up critical support from the likes of BBC Introducing and Communion Live (Catfish and the Bottlemen, Michael Kiwanuka, Ben Howard).

The growing attention seems well-earned: following his critically-acclaimed recent single “Wanna Be Here” – the biggest track the emerging star has released to date, racing to over 90K views – French has announced his debut headline UK tour in March and performed alongside the likes of Tom Walker and Jade Bird for The Felix Project.

Now he drops his incredible new track and visuals for “The Only Living Thing” (the second release from his upcoming debut album). Starring actor Charley Palmer Rothwell (Dunkirk, Darkest Hour) it’s another subtle, melodic thing of beauty, lyrically breaking down relationships and the love and pain dynamic within them. There’s also a knowing nod to mental health issues and loneliness, making this a measured and sensitive statement. Speaking on the track, Adam states:

“The track is about realisation, that everything you previously had was all that you ever needed and more. Two people sharing the same pain, coming to terms with the fact that they might need to look backwards in order to move forwards. Love is an interesting beast. I’ve always been fond of videos that tell love stories in interesting ways, but this one’s different for so many reasons. I’m sure a lot of people can relate to longing for companionship.”

After spending the last year honing his sound in the studio with producer Rich Cooper (Billie Marten, Mystery Jets), Adam’s new release is another powerful, sensitive statement of the levels of talent this young man possesses. Get ready to hear a lot more from him in 2019.
