Splash, Germany’s premier urban festival, announces its full line up for 2019 with some of the biggest names in rap and hip-hop. Taking place from 11 – 13 July in Ferropolis, one hour south of Berlin, Splash is one of Europe’s best kept secrets for music purists who worship at the altar of urban music.

Confirmed to headline this year’s event is Atlanta’s finest, Young Thug. Starting with a prolific run of mixtapes in the early 2010s, Thug rose by pioneering a weird, ever-shifting flow somewhere between singing, rapping, mumbling and squawking, pushing rap forward by pulling it apart. He’ll be joined by twisted pretty-boy A$AP Rocky; Grammy Award winner Chance the Rapper; Future, who helped redefine 2010s street rap as something strange and almost avant-garde; and BROCKHAMPTON, the unstoppable supergroup comprising rappers, singers, producers, designers and directors who are surely one of the first true creators of the internet era.

Joining them will be a cohort of newer talent who are pushing the scene forward: Harlem native Khadimou Fall aka Sheck Wes; LA-based rapper and creator of mixtapes Beast Mode and A Love Letter to You, Trippie Redd; SaveMoney member and boundary-pushing Chicago rapper Joey Purp; YBN Cordae, member of LA’s Young Boss Niggas crew and Wolverhampton’s own dark and intense force, Scarlxrd.

In addition to hosting global talent, Splash also acts as a key platform and showcase for homegrown German artists and this year proves no exception. Among the highlights are Deutschrap star Trettmann, who saw a return to form with last year’s #DIY album; German rapper of Afghan heritage SSIO, and LGoony, who burst onto the scene in 2015 with ‘Spacetape Vol 1’.

In addition to its world class bill, Splash also boasts a striking setting. Located in an hour south of Berlin, the festival’s home is Ferropolis, an open air museum of industrial relics. The site includes five mining excavators of such awe-inspiring scale that they need to be seen to be believed. It’s based on the peninsula of the Gremmin Lake, which gives festival-goers an ideal chill-out zone just a short stroll away from the main event.

Launched as an indoor event in 1998, Splash has emerged as a key festival for the rap and hip-hop scenes. In previous years, the festival has demonstrated its ability to attract the leading lights of the genres with sets from J Cole, Tyler The Creator, Post Malone, Lil Yachty, Kano and Gucci Mane.
