Afrobeat artist Kofi Jamar has teamed up with Medikal for his new single ‘Asuoden’, out now. This is his 3rd single of the year, following on from his last effort ‘Mi Dey Up’, released in August.
‘Asuoden’ positions Kofi Jamar in a state of rebellion, looking to ‘stand in defiance to societal structures that are put in place to deter one’s ambitions or dreams’. Reflected perfectly in the title (‘Asuoden’ means stubbornness), both Kofi and Medikal are lyrically humorous yet critical, atop a luscious instrumental which blends intricate rhythms, infectious melodies and an undeniably catchy hook.
Born and raised in Ghana, Kofi Jamar is no stranger to his country’s Afrobeat scene. Crowned as one of the best freestyle rappers in his region at the age of 18 by a local radio station, he went on to find commercial success with a remix of Yemi Alade’s “Johnny’ in his hometown of Kumasi. After a year’s break in 2017, he signed with GADone Records in 2018. With a few critically-acclaimed singles under his belt and plans for an imminent debut full-length project soon, Kofi Jamar is ready to secure his place as one of the most exciting musical exports Ghana has to offer.
‘Asuoden’ is available now via Spotify and all major streaming platforms.
