Hip-hop artist SlumDawg has just released his debut EP ‘The New Soweto’. This follows on from the debut single ‘Feed The Streets’, released in October.
“Soweto has been the core of South Africa’s Hip Hop scene since the early 2000s. However, our presence in the game is not as impactful as it was before. This album will introduce Soweto to the whole world.” – SlumDawg
‘The New Soweto’ is dedicated to SlumDawg’s father, who sadly passed away a few months ago. Looking to revolutionise the African hip-hop scene, he draws from both old-school and modern hip hop sensibilities in order to create a truly unique listening experience. SlumDawg’s distinctive vocal delivery and flow is complemented perfectly by the minimal yet melodic production of MatteBlu, at the helm of the entire project.
Hailing from Soweto, one of South Africa’s most prominent townships, SlumDawg describes himself as ‘reclusive yet assertive’. An avid hip-hop fan, he has spent years honing his craft whilst competing on the battle-rapping scene in his home nation. Inspired by the likes of Nas, The Notorious BIG and Pro Kid, SlumDawg looks to build a future for himself with his lyrical prowess, along with starting his own label ‘Black Fist Cartel’.
‘The New Soweto’ is available now across all major streaming platforms.
