Prefacing the release of his 5-track EP titled ‘Confessions’, Matthew R gives listeners a sneak peak of what they can expect from this new body of work with latest single ‘Oh Lord.’
Motivated by conversations about and experiences with relationships that Matthew has had over the years, this Leicester rising R&B star was driven to create something that put his own twists on what he’s learned. The result? A slow winding tune that belongs on any playlist designed to set the tone for a romantic interlude.
And the inclusion of elements of his own experiences isn’t a new phenomenon for Matthew R’s music. The son of vocal coach, Roy Richards, music has always been a part of his life and now, he makes sure there is always an element of that life in the tracks he creates.
When asked about the creative process for Oh Lord’, Matthew R explains, “after I went through the correct procedures to obtain the beat from the producer, I listened to it over and over and the lyrics came to me perfectly. Little did I know that, subconsciously, it was actually based on things I go through without me intentionally using my experiences. Its the same with all my songs. I always sit back and realise that it is solely based on me. So, going forward I have always made sure there is a hint of my life in my songs.”
With the ‘Confessions’ coming in the near future, Matthew R plans to provide fans with another glimpse into the EP with ‘Out of My Mind,’ featuring fellow Leicester artist, Ky.
“Out of My Mind is different from other releases as it’s actually about experiences I have been through”
Working alongside AWAL Music, Matthew R describes himself as hungrier than ever. In addition to Confessions, the near future holds much more music to be released, as well as scheduled radio appearances. He is excited for the pandemic to conclude so he can get back on stage.
