Inspired by a creative 24 hours spent in Lagos: ’24Hrs in Lagos City’ is the fire new album to come from the Dublin based artist Trey Wavey

After travelling to Lagos City from Dublin for a funeral, Trey Wavey spent 24 hours with Olakira, a hot afrobeat artist/producer signed to UNI Music, whose latest single ‘In My Maserati’ garnered millions of views on YouTube and even more global streams on various platforms, leading to the remix of the track being jumped on by Davido. During this short time together, they wrote ‘Sadé’ and ‘Power to Heal’, which were the first tracks completed on the album and set the tone for the rest of the record. Trey also met with Buju, who is signed to Burna Boy’s label ‘On A Spaceship’.

Buju’s smash song ‘L’enu’ with Burna Boy has been breaking afrobeat playlist records, so the collaboration with Trey was a must! Trey and Buju created the sensual love song ‘My Baby’, which was in fact recorded in Olakira’s home studio in Lagos City.

Although the rest of the album was written and recorded back in Dublin, Trey’s experience with Olakira had a profound impact on the rest of the tracks.

“Music is my best way of expressing what I feel and as I felt a strong urge to fulfil this part of me that I always felt was missing in my music, all I wrote was afro influenced music for 8 months straight,” explains Trey Wavey who wanted to showcase his versatility and fuse his Irish upbringing with his Nigerian heritage, and show the influence that Caribbean music and Hip Hop has had on his sound.

With songs ranging from high tempo, leg-working afrobeat anthems to slower and more sensual tracks, this album will have you hooked from start to finish!

Trey Wavey is a 22 year old afrobeats and hip hop artist from Dublin, Ireland. Originally starting out as an instrumentalist, Trey Wavey picked up the mic in 2018 for the first time since the choir days of his youth. Heavily influenced by his Nigerian heritage, he was exposed to so many genres of music ranging from 80s and 90s pop, funk and RnB, to gospel and most prominently hip hop and rap as his father was a huge American music fan. Citing Burna Boy, WizKid and Juice WRLD as key influences, Trey Wavey is on the up and is certainly one to watch! His single ‘Power to Heal’ has been picked up for Spotify editorial playlists and is available on Spotify’s Afro Bashment playlist.

’24Hrs in Lagos City’ is available now via all major platforms.
