Born on October 23, 2005, in London to Tunisian parents, Sophie embarked on her musical journey at the age of four, delving into piano lessons. It wasn’t long before she discovered her passion for singing at school events, finding inspiration in the melodies of Taylor Swift. Throughout her primary school years, Sophie’s go-to karaoke anthem was always Swift’s “22.”
Growing up, Sophie’s love for music persisted, with her singing whenever an opportunity presented itself. Upon entering secondary school, she took to Instagram and TikTok, frequently sharing cover performances. The turning point came during the onset of the COVID pandemic when Sophie immersed herself in the Netflix show “Julie and the Phantoms,” igniting a spark to start crafting and publishing her own songs online.
While her early performances graced school events and Talent Shows, Sophie’s musical journey reached a significant milestone with her first gig in January 2023. Her musical style, a harmonious blend of pop and R&B, has now expanded to include explorations into the realms of dance music.
Sophie’s release, ‘Guilty,’ penned in January 2023 in collaboration with Lucan Mills and Rhys Fletcher, delves into the realm of a friendship dissolution. The track intricately navigates the emotional terrain of betrayal and backstabbing, providing listeners with a compelling journey through the complexities of a fractured connection.
Sabrina Carpenter stands as Sophie’s primary influence, with Dua Lipa and Tate McRae contributing to the tapestry of her evolving style. The recognition of her songwriting prowess was evident as Sophie secured third place in the Young Songwriter Competition 2023 and emerged as a finalist in the UKSC. Coverage from Fame Magazine and Stereo Stickman, along with radio plays, added to her burgeoning presence.
A collaborative spirit, Sophie released her first joint effort with a Canadian/Tunisian rapper in early January, seamlessly merging diverse styles and languages. With four singles already released and another scheduled for February 16th, Sophie’s creative process involves writing a song daily in her room, valuing the importance of consistency and embracing experimentation.
Live performances have become a cornerstone of Sophie’s musical expression, with notable highlights including a standout gig with her band at the Camden Canal. The calendar is brimming with upcoming performances, promising audiences a mix of full-band energy and stripped-back acoustic intimacy.
Balancing high school, completing the IB diploma, and pursuing a music career poses its challenges, but Sophie thrives on being busy. Navigating the university application process, she emerged triumphant through effective organisation and time management. While finding her exact target audience remains a work in progress, Sophie’s consistency on social media is steadily connecting her with those who resonate with her music.
Drawing inspiration from the challenges she faces, Sophie embraces persistence and dedication as the driving forces behind her artistic journey. Sabrina Carpenter continues to be a guiding influence, shaping both her music genre and style.
Crafted during the summer of 2023, Sophie’s freshest release, ‘Blood On My Hands,’ draws inspiration from the intricacies of relationships. The song candidly explores the experience of unexpectedly catching feelings, grappling with a sense of wrongdoing, and questioning the validity of such emotions. Initially conceived as an experimental composition within the studio, ‘Blood On My Hands’ organically evolved into a more profound musical expression, capturing the essence of complex emotions and unexpected romantic twists.
Looking ahead, Sophie envisions the release of an EP by the end of 2024, with a heightened frequency of single releases in the interim. Collaborations with artists beyond the rap genre are on the horizon for 2024 and 2025, while her musical footprint extends from London to Tunisia in the pursuit of diverse and enriching performances.
‘Blood On My Hands’ is available now via all major platforms.
