Fast-rising pianist, vocalist, and composer Ashley Henry delivers his stunning new track ‘Take It Higher’, released via his own label Royal Raw Records and naïve.

Laced with sleek, swirling strings and glossy vocal layers, ‘Take It Higher’ is another spellbinding record from the South Londoner, marking his triumphant return this year. The track opens with stylish silhouettes rolling over syncopated jazz percussion before Ashley commands the smooth beat with high-octane piano acrobatics. His free-form, improvisational flair shines through, leading to the liberating chant, “Let’s get away,” as he blossoms in a serene yet self-assured groove.

Speaking about the track, Ashley says:

“Sometimes life can trick us into feeling limited. *‘Take It Higher’* is about tapping into emotions, aspirations, and a world beyond. It explores the power of music to transport us together to another place, despite everything. I hope it takes people to a space where they can rest, enjoy, and embrace childlike creativity as a life norm so we can thrive.”

Drawing inspiration from his London upbringing and Jamaican heritage, Ashley Henry’s genre-bending sound reflects a deep connection to the Black radical traditions. A student of both history and futurism, his artistry has been shaped by powerful voices like James Baldwin and Angela Davis, and the soulful compositions of jazz greats such as Ahmad Jamal and George Benson. These influences inform his complex yet accessible expressions of jazz culture, which feel as beautiful as they are thought-provoking.

Since touring globally with Christine and the Queens and supporting Loyle Carner across the UK, Ashley’s multi-disciplinary approach has firmly positioned him as one of the most exciting musicians in London and beyond. With endorsements from WONDERLAND, The Guardian, Evening Standard, Clash, and Notion, Ashley’s star has continued to rise. His headline performance at the 2023 Brick Lane Jazz Festival, alongside talents like Bel Cobain, Reuben James, and Lex Amor, further cemented his reputation as a standout artist.

With his new studio album ‘Who We Are’ set to drop in October, Ashley Henry’s deep-rooted influence and relentless drive for experimentation will no doubt continue to amplify the buzz surrounding this iconic emerging talent as he crashes into wider consciousness.

‘Take It Higher’ is available now via all major platforms.
