GIGI TENASE

GIGI TENASE, an accomplished artist and seasoned songwriter, is making waves in the music industry with her latest venture into Brazilian Phonk. What or who inspired you to begin a career in music?

I started writing during the lockdown in 2020 and uploaded a few songs to social media. A woman called Valentina Reynolds approached me and offered to manage me. I knew I could sing from the age of 12; however, I lacked confidence and never thought of music as a potential career for myself.

What differs you and your sound from other artists in the music industry?

I was raised in Australia, and my sound in the UK is definitely unique compared to the usual UK artists, especially when I rap. I’m also extremely versatile, able to demonstrate a wide vocal range. Additionally, my style is versatile, which is definitely unique and keeps my supporters constantly intrigued.

Your latest release, ‘PULL UP’ is out now via all major platforms. Can you please describe the creative process and inspiration behind the project?

‘PULL UP’ is a track designed to encourage men to approach women. To be honest, I’m a songwriter, so once I co-produced the beat, it was something that just came to me naturally. Sometimes there isn’t a personal reason behind the lyrics—I suppose that makes me a very imaginative and creative person.

In your own opinion, what is the most meaningful song you wrote? What makes you say that one?

The most meaningful song I’ve written is an unreleased track called ‘WHERE I’M FROM.’ It’s about people constantly questioning where I’m from and expressing how I am a melting pot of cultures.

How do you handle the balance between artistic expression and connecting with your audience?

I have always been myself on social media. I think it’s important to show people who you are, whether you’re happy, sad, successful, or struggling. I’d say I’m working on building my audience, as I’ve recently found my sound. This means I’ll be attracting a different audience, and I’ll use my artistic expression to make my supporters feel understood with music that’s relatable.

Can you share a memorable or defining moment in your career so far?

The most memorable highlight of my career was performing in Marbella. Getting a paid international booking as an independent artist was a very special feeling for me.

What advice would you give to aspiring singer-songwriters who are just starting their musical journey?

Stay independent, do your research, know the music business, and be good at marketing. Don’t mix friendship with business. Do it because you’re destined for it, not for the benefits.

What does the foreseeable future hold for you as an artist?

GIGI TENASE is a name I hope will become well-known. I see myself as someone who can inspire young females to love who they are and help reconnect young men and women. Our generation faces many challenges, and I genuinely want to make a positive impact.

‘PULL UP’ is available now via all major platforms.
