Enigmatic singer-songwriter Alxndr London talks musical influences, music career advice and his latest EP ‘III META’

Enigmatic singer-songwriter Alxndr London follows up 2019 mixtape IV MERIN with new EP ‘III META’, out now. Forever finding new ways to make music his own, London’s personalised sound nestles somewhere amongst spiritual soul, electronica and experimental music, with lyrics exploring death, religion and Afrocentric themes.

What inspired you to begin a career in music?

I began singing in church choir and I can’t remember a time when I’ve not sung. I love expressing and creating. In 2013 a journey began and I’m forever grateful.

What differs you and your sound from other upcoming artists in the music industry?

Not sure, what do you think?

Your latest release ‘III META’ is out now. Can you please describe the creative process and explain the meaning behind the EP?

I worked very closely on this project with Bon. The idea was to tell my story, a story of rebirth and discovery.

Everyone experiences good days and bad days, as a musician, when you have a bad day, what motivates you to keep moving and look ahead to the future?

Funnily enough silence helps. When it’s getting a lot, I find a peaceful, quiet place to escape to – usually in my head.

In your own opinion, what is the most meaningful song you wrote? What makes you say that one?

All of them.

Throughout your musical career, have you experienced any ‘wow’ moments? Those moments that you stop to reflect and can’t believe you are where you are?

Playing last year at Brooklyn Afropunk seems so surreal, especially after the year we’re having.

What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue this career?

Talk to as many artists as you can. Learn from their successes and failures. Also DM me.

What does the foreseeable future hold for you as an artist?

More of the same. I’ll probably always sing/wear hats.

Did you learn any new skills during lockdown?

My gardening skills have been flexing, it’s not really a new skill though – just had more time to get into it all. Managed to grow gherkins, potatoes, tomatoes, strawberries and more this year.

Anything else you would like to add?
