London-based Afrobeats star of the moment Afro B follows up this year’s sleek single, “Sexy Sexy”, with brand new double single, “Baba (Father God)” featuring lyricist Fatoumata Diawara, and “Do Like This” featuring DJ Peet.
Underlining Afro B’s natural finesse when combining west African sounds and deep percussion with a London element, his latest singles prove to be irresistible and uplifting records, proving to be the perfect tonic to continue this year’s summer. Up first, Afro B taps Malian singer-songwriter Fatoumata Diawara to provide the perfect chorus for another intoxicating single which combines skippy percussive elements and amapiano bass kicks. On the flip, “Do Like This”, featuring esteemed French artist DJ Peet, and Ivory Coast’s Heaven Sam on production, proves to be a laid-back, amapiano-infused soundtrack, providing the perfect foundation for both artists innate lyricism to glide across. This latest release serves as a timely reminder of the Londoner’s skill in creating season bangers, whilst planting himself distinctly in today’s effervescent culture.
Speaking on “Do Like This”, Afro B states:
“For a while now my core fanbase have been requesting me to come back to my original sound. I believe this song hits the nail on the head. It has the nostalgic azonto feel mixed with the current afro sounds. It’s almost impossible not to shake a leg or tap a foot to this one. I was also honoured to work with the Ivorian producer Heaven Sam who did an amazing Job. DJ Peet, one of the biggest francophone DJs curated the whole project, I’m glad he had the vision for this.”
On “Baba (Father God)”, he goes on to say:
“With this record I wanted to show a different side to Afro B as its been a while I’ve done so. I feel that it’s important to show gratitude to the God I believe in, especially as I enter this new chapter of my musical career. I’m also a huge fan of Fatoumata Diawara, her sound is so unique and soothing and it fitted in perfectly with the mood I wanted to achieve.”
