Who or what ignited your passion for music and drove you to pursue it as a career?
My family have always surrounded me with music and allowed me such a beautiful, freeing environment to explore sounds and express myself as a young child. This is where my love for music began.
How would you describe your sound in a way that sets you apart from the crowd, and why do you think it resonates with listeners?
I would describe my sound as emotional, real and smooth. I made a serious effort to ensure nothing was overly compressed on this project. I wanted listeners to feel like I was in the room with them, giving them a private performance.
Your debut EP, ‘Sentiments’ is making waves on all major platforms! Can you take us behind the scenes of its creation and share the story or feelings that inspired it?
Thank you for saying that. The Sentiments EP symbolises the past three years of my life. It is a result of growth, maturity, and inner strength. During the three years of living each song I worked on discovering a soundscape that I felt showcases who I am as an artist authentically. I even find myself connecting with the sound and forgetting that it’s my own music sometimes. It takes me on a journey and I am really proud of the result.
Out of all the songs you’ve written, which one holds the deepest meaning for you, and what’s the story behind its emotional connection?
That is a tough one. I connect to each song in a unique way. If I had to choose, I would highlight the song ‘High On You’. I felt like this song was sent to me. I wrote it in 30 minutes and the melodies flooded my brain on one Monday morning as I sat in my best friends Barbershop Cove17 on Angel Lane. The song is about being in a healthy relationship. It is about being uplifted by your partner and having such mental peace that you are able to flourish. This song was a turning point. It struck a match in me and pushed me to compile all the songs I had been working on which eventually resulted in the creation of Sentiments.
Striking a chord with your audience while staying true to your artistry can be tricky—how do you navigate that balance?
I think having a good relationship with my audience is important. This is my community. I love them as they love me. It’s a relationship that is forever growing and changing. I will always strive to entertain and deliver something that is relevant to me and them. It’s like sharing something I love with my friends. They support me but are also very real and honest which helps me grow as an artist.
What has been the most unforgettable or career-defining moment for you so far, and how did it shape you as an artist?
I have been fortunate the travel the world on the back of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. In 2012 I secured a lead role in the West End Musical Thriller Live. This show gave me the chance to perform to sold out audiences around the world. This catapulted me into the limelight and taught me many important life lessons.
If you could pass on a single piece of wisdom to aspiring singer-songwriters, what would it be, and why is it so important?
Knowledge is power and knowing what makes you special is strength. I have always studied my goals and made sure that I acquired as much information and experience to execute it myself. The more you can do for yourself, the more control you have over the outcome.
What exciting projects or goals do you have on the horizon, and how are you preparing to level up your artistry?
Right now, I am enjoying the release of Sentiments. I hope to explore the idea of remixes for some of the songs and look into hitting festival stages during the Summertime. I love to perform; it has always been where I feel my most authentic and alive! I want to share this with a bigger audience.
Lastly, is there anything you’d love to share with your supporters or something on your heart that we haven’t touched on?
I would just like to show my gratitude to everyone who has shown love and support over the last few months since I started the roll out of this new music. It can be really scary giving your heart to the world and being so vulnerable but everyone has been so wonderful and made this whole experience beautiful.
