Grammy nominated producer, writer, & artist Monro details the intricacies of love in new single “2 of Us”
A true musician, Monro is a captivating artist whose music burrows deep. Unveiling his latest sonic offering, “2 of Us”, an emotionally charged single that continues to boast the spellbinding sound he has made his own.
Marking the start of an exciting chapter ahead, Monro has formed a reputation for his genre-bending sound that’s bursting with lyrical substance, “2 Of Us is a journey through a conversation in a relationship, it’s two people standing at the precipice of a romantic journey hoping they can make it through. It’s pain and hope in one song, it touches a lot on the delusion in two people thinking they can make something work when they know it’s already broken. It’s a place I’ve been myself and an experience I drew from”
Painted delicately with dusky undertones, “2 of Us” is harnessed with a mesmeric soundscape. Accented with ambient synth swells and off-kilter drums that create a warm but fractured atmosphere, Monro delves into the intricacies of modern-day love. Forming a tension between intimacy both desired and delayed, “2 of Us” captures love in limbo. Paired with an incredibly powerful visual, the track is glazed with Monro’s delivery, similar to an after-midnight voice note; raw and confessional.
Monro is a genre-defying artist, songwriter and producer entering the most revealing phase of his creative journey. Known for his platinum-selling, Grammy and Juno nominated work behind the scenes with some of the world’s most acclaimed artists – including Jhené Aiko, Rico Nasty, V (of BTS), NewJeans, Adekunle Gold, Masego and Nines – Monro has spent years helping others find their voice. Now, he’s turning inward.
On this solo journey, Monro has accumulated support from Apple Music playlists such as ‘New In Electronic’, ‘New Music Daily’, ‘Electronic Pop’, ‘Chilling Out’, ‘Pop Deluxe’ as well as BBC Introducing and more. Amassing over 260,000 project streams, Monro has built a fanbase eager to hear what’s coming next.
Raised just outside London, Monro was tapped into a vibrant range of musical cultures; he now moves fluidly between the UK and Los Angeles, forming a musical DNA that is truly global. His sound is shaped by the wide spectrum of artists he’s collaborated with, but also by the diverse range of genres that shaped his upbringing – from Grime and UK garage, film scores by classical composers, 2000s pop, and classic American hip-hop, R&B and rock. While his early years were filled with guitar sessions and self-recordings, Monro’s path wasn’t without detours. In his teens, discouraged by a lack of local creative role models, he pivoted to filmmaking – capturing early footage of now-iconic artists like Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky through a YouTube channel he started with friends.
Monro returned to music with quiet intensity, building from the ground up, producing for artists, learning to engineer, developing his voice, and establishing himself as a versatile and sought-after collaborator. For the first time, Monro steps forward not just as a producer shaping other artists’ stories, but as a voice expressing his own. Lyrically, the songs draw from relationships past and present, heartbreaks that taught him grace, love that forced him to grow, and the nuances of connection that don’t always fit into binaries. The result is music that lives in the grey area between pain and progression.
