‘Silver Lining’ is the radiant new single from rising British soul and R&B artist Geo Baddoo, arriving on 12 September to ease us into the golden afterglow of summer. It marks her first true love song and follows a string of acclaimed releases including the confident summer anthem Look At Me and the empowering opener of the year My Turn. Together, these tracks have already earned Geo recognition from BBC 1Xtra, COLORS, VIBE Magazine, BBC Introducing and Live Nation’s Ones To Watch, placing her firmly on the map as one of the UK’s most exciting new voices.
Paying tribute to 1970s Lovers Rock while nodding to iconic reggae classics such as Janet Kay’s Silly Games and Serani’s No Games, Silver Lining swaps the drama and toxicity of modern love stories for tenderness, honesty and genuine connection. Written and produced with Grammy-nominated musician Steve Marshall (Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, George Clinton, Keith Richards), the track was first conceived during a trip to the States before being refined in the UK. The result is a lush, groove-laden cut driven by Geo’s rich harmonies, soulful melodies and an irresistible mix of electronic textures, acoustic guitar and infectious synths. Percussion is lifted by archive conga recordings from the late Reuben “Sleepy” White, giving the record both warmth and timeless character.
At the heart of Silver Lining lies the phrase “I’m ready” – sung as both confession and commitment. The lyrics reflect a love that can only flourish when rooted in self-awareness, maturity and trust. Speaking on the inspiration, Geo shares,
“This is the first love song I’ve released, showing another side of me, but it had to wait for me as much as I waited for it. So often relationships are portrayed through conflict or toxicity, and I wanted to flip that script with something honest and hopeful. It is about the kind of connection that only arrives when you are truly grounded in yourself.”
True to its name, the song feels like light breaking through cloud. It is an uplifting ode to intimacy, equally suited to late-night drives, intimate dancefloors or quiet moments of reflection. Its sincerity and warmth mark it as one of Geo’s most personal releases yet.
Born and raised in a countryside village, Geo Baddoo grew up immersed in music. Her father’s home studio became a creative playground where she first began experimenting with sound, sparking a lifelong passion for songwriting and storytelling. Now based in London, she draws influence from a wide palette that ranges from Mary J. Blige and Nina Simone to David Bowie and Al Green. Her craft has also been shaped by collaborations with legendary musicians including Steve Marshall, Reuben “Sleepy” White, Alan Weekes and Kenrick Row of the original Jazz Warriors, and Michael “Bammi” Rose of Cymande.
With her ability to blend timeless influences into a modern soul-R&B framework, Geo Baddoo stands as a unique and necessary voice in today’s music landscape. Gentle yet powerful, introspective yet universal, Silver Lining captures her signature balance of grounded storytelling and quiet confidence in a world that often feels chaotic. More than a love song, it is a reminder of the light we can create when we meet each other with truth and openness.
