Dutch DJ producer Julian Cross talks music career advice, collaborations and new single ‘Molecule’ from his forthcoming debut album ‘Nebula’

Released today ‘Molecule’ is the latest release from Dutch DJ, producer and artist Julian Cross. The single arrives from his forthcoming debut album ‘Nebula’, releasing December 2020. He is launching the single with record label New Breed Records where his vision is to provide a platform to showcase the brightest emerging talent.

What inspired you to begin a career in music?

Years ago, when I was a teenager, I saw a DJ mixer at my friends place and I tried it. I found it really cool. I went to Pioneer in the Netherlands to get a series of lessons on how to produce. I just couldn’t get that out of my mind. When I wasn’t at school I was busy with ‘music’. I just loved being busy with music and everything that comes with it. And that is the reason I decided I wanted to do this, the fact I just love to do what I do. In fact this is in brief how my career started.

What differs you and your sound from other upcoming producers in the music industry?

I would describe it like a rather new sound, a little bit different, between space and cyberpunk. In my opinion the vocals makes its sound rather particular.

Everyone experiences good and bad days, as a musician, when you have a bad day, what motivates you to keep moving and look ahead to the future?

I think everybody has now and then an off day. My motto is ‘get yourself together and move on’; get in touch or hang out with friends, listen to your favourite music, have a good meal but certainly wallow not in self-pity.

Throughout your career, have you experienced any ‘wow’ moments? Those moments that you stop to reflect and can’t believe you are where you are?

I certainly have experienced some ‘wow’ moments. To list them all would lead us too far. I will pick two: I got the opportunity to play a set at The Gathering of Tomorrowland and at Parookaville. Those two experiences were really insane. When I stood there I pinched myself in the arm to check if it was real.

Who would you like to work with in the future? Is there anymore collaborations coming up anytime soon?

There are some names with whom I would like a collaboration. There are some projects in the pipeline, but I can’t give any more details right now.

How do you approach the sensitive task of discussing and rearrangements with artists?

I always stay respectful and honest. In my opinion it is important to stick to values that you consider as a guidance in your life.

What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue this career?

One advice I would give them is ‘follow your dreams’; when you do, you really can make it happen’! But I would also advice them to see that you are well guided when it comes to it, because there are also many sharks in the ocean…

What does the foreseeable future hold for you as a music producer?

I am working on different projects right now. One of them is a video clip for Molecule.

Anything you would like to add?

I am really looking forward to the release of my new single. I worked so hard on it. It’s now time to share with you all.

‘Molecule’ is available now via all major platforms.
