Angel Wong Turns Her Focus to Masculinity and Modern Life on ‘Seeing Red’

London based, Hong Kong raised cross genre pop artist Angel Wong returns with her fourth single, ‘Seeing Red’, out now! Blending traditional Chinese instrumentation with distorted and acoustic guitars, angular harmonies and indie rock vocals, the track takes a sharp look at masculinity, consumer culture and the contradictions of contemporary life.

At the centre of ‘Seeing Red’ is Angel’s exploration of the red pill and ‘broicism’ movements, particularly the way elements of ancient Stoicism can be stripped of their original context and repurposed within the manosphere to promote emotional repression and relentless self optimisation.

The song questions what happens when ideas around success and self worth become closely tied to productivity, status and achievement. Rather than presenting a straightforward answer, Angel uses the track to examine the pressures and contradictions that can emerge from these attitudes.

Musically, ‘Seeing Red’ brings together Eastern and Western influences, with the sound of the guzheng, a traditional Chinese string instrument, woven into a more angular, guitar led arrangement. Crunchy distortion, acoustic textures and unconventional harmonic movement give the track a restless energy, balancing its catchy pop instincts with a more abrasive edge.

Lyrically, Angel moves between ‘zoo ified’ suburbia and substance induced escapism, turning her attention to performative desire and materialism. The contrast between the vivid imagery and the track’s energetic production gives ‘Seeing Red’ a deliberately uneasy quality without losing its sense of melody.

‘Seeing Red’ follows three singles released throughout 2026, marking a prolific year for Angel. ‘Know That’, released in August, explored the guilt and resentment of being the person who ends a relationship, while ‘North of the River’ offered a pop funk satire of social posturing.

‘North of the River’ was praised by LOUDWOMEN for its energy, guitar lines and fun synth pop sensibility, while Niji Magazine previously described Angel as ‘one of London’s most exciting emerging pop artists’. Her debut single ‘Hide n Seek’ was described by TuneFountain as ‘a strong first impression’, highlighting an instinct for scale that feels sweeping, sleek and emotionally charged.

Angel’s genre spanning approach reflects a musical background that is equally varied. With roots in Hong Kong and Miao culture from Guizhou, she has spent years performing on London’s jazz circuit, including appearances at the EFG London Jazz Festival and collaborations with Grammy winning artists.

That experience informs a pop sound that moves freely between influences while maintaining a strong melodic focus. Her songwriting is sharp and witty, with a warmth that gives even her more unconventional ideas an accessible quality.

With ‘Seeing Red’, Angel continues to expand that palette, pairing familiar pop instincts with a more angular musical direction and subject matter that invites closer attention.

The ‘Seeing Red’ music video is set for release on 7 October, with further announcements expected across Angel’s social channels.
