Introducing EMEREE: Soul, Self Discovery and the Journey Back to Yourself

Australian artist, producer and multi instrumentalist Gabrielle Emery is the creative force behind EMEREE, an artist whose music blends contemporary R&B and soul with a deep appreciation for classic soul. Defined by her four octave vocal range, rich harmony stacks, whistle notes, 90s R&B influence and warm production, EMEREE has developed a sound that feels both nostalgic and distinctly her own.

Her journey began with a viral breakthrough through debut single “Leave You Like a Man”, which generated millions of views and helped establish a rapidly growing global audience ahead of her debut EP Gold. Alongside her work as an artist, EMEREE has built an impressive reputation as a producer and songwriter, with her work surpassing 50 million Spotify streams, including Tyla Jane’s hit “Energy”, which also secured major international sync placements.

That experience has been matched by an increasingly impressive live profile. EMEREE recently supported Paris Paloma on her sold out Australian tour, following previous support slots for Thelma Plum, JACOTENE and Budjerah. She has also performed at The Great Escape in Brighton and BIGSOUND 2025, while earning major editorial playlist placements including Fresh Finds and being selected as one of NME’s Top 100 Artists to Watch of 2025.

Her growing recognition has also extended into the industry. EMEREE was selected by Australian artists Eves Karydas and Tia Gostelow for a residency at Brisbane’s 4000 Studios with APRA AMCOS, receiving mentorship from multi platinum producers and collaborating with leading Australian artists. She has also been nominated for Best Soul/Gospel Work at the Music Victoria Awards, received an Honourable Mention in the International Songwriting Competition and earned a nomination for Self Producing Artist of the Year with the Music Producer & Engineer’s Guild.

Now, EMEREE enters another chapter with her new single “runninglikewater”, released on 1 October 2026 and serving as the second taste of her forthcoming debut album Blossom. Blending intimate acoustic textures with rich soul and pop production, the track pairs understated warmth with EMEREE’s signature vocal stacks and impressive vocal range. Sitting between soulful pop and acoustic singer songwriter territory, “runninglikewater” offers another glimpse into an artist who continues to evolve without losing the emotional honesty at the heart of her work.

The track also provides a deeper introduction to the world of Blossom, an album centred on the feminine experience of blossoming back into yourself after heartbreak. Written with James Xavier in London during what EMEREE describes as her “summer of self-awareness”, “runninglikewater” explores the irony of becoming so comfortable alone that intimacy itself can begin to feel like something to escape.

As EMEREE explains: “After more than four years being single, I had learned to love my own company genuinely. I was a huge fan of catching flights and not feelings and didn’t really want to share my life with someone.”

That vulnerability is central to EMEREE’s appeal. Her writing explores sexual identity and female empowerment with an honesty that sits naturally alongside the warmth and soulfulness of her production. On “runninglikewater”, those qualities come together in a track that feels vulnerable, self aware and slightly chaotic, reflecting the emotional contradictions that come with learning to open yourself up again.

The new single arrives at an exciting point in EMEREE’s journey. With her debut album Blossom on the horizon, collaborations with Grammy winning producers and a headline show upcoming in Melbourne, she continues to establish herself as an artist capable of moving effortlessly between songwriting, production and performance.

There is already a clear sense of momentum behind her. From viral beginnings and more than 50 million streams to international touring, major editorial support and industry recognition, EMEREE has steadily built an identity around musicianship, individuality and emotional honesty. “runninglikewater” feels like a natural progression of that journey, offering another glimpse into the artist behind the music and the story that Blossom is beginning to tell.
