Emerging artist MANNY talks the creative process & inspiration behind latest release ‘Losing Ground’ + more

Manny is already making serious waves across the Drum and Bass scene, following high-profile collaborations with Brit-nominated producer Vibe Chemistry and veteran Zero T, partnerships that have drawn praise from none other than the legendary Goldie.

Now stepping out with his debut solo project, Manny invites listeners into a deeply personal journey that reflects his own perspective on life and the way music has guided him through it. At the heart of this project lies one powerful theme – Journey. It’s not just about where he’s been, but where he’s headed.

Who or what ignited your passion for music and drove you to pursue it as a career?

My passion for music was ignited by the struggles of immigration at the age of 19. Music gave me a sense of purpose and hope, it was my therapy.

How would you describe your sound in a way that sets you apart from the crowd, and why do you think it resonates with listeners?

I would describe my sound as food for the soul. I create music that isn’t bound by genre — it’s rooted in real-life experiences that listeners can interpret in their own way, even though it comes from the depths of my soul.

Your latest release ‘Losing Ground’ ft Mille, is making waves on all major platforms! Can you take us behind the scenes of its creation and share the story or feelings that inspired it?

‘Losing Ground’ emerged as a reflection on falling behind in the pursuit of happiness. Music has always been the root of my happiness, and I wanted to write a song that captures what music truly means to me. You can hear this sentiment in the verse, and as the chorus unfolds, the reality of the distance between me and this dream of mine becomes clear — the feeling of losing ground on this journey toward happiness. Despite my patience, it was never enough. Having Mille on this track was significant, as I’ve been a fan of hers for a while. The collaboration happened remotely since Mille lives in Switzerland, and we’ve never actually met, but her voice truly elevates the song even further.

Out of all the songs you’ve written, which one holds the deepest meaning for you, and what’s the story behind its emotional connection?

The next single, ‘Holding On,’ is one that holds the deepest meaning for me. ‘Holding On’ is an anthem of hope, a song about holding onto the belief that change is possible even in dark times. It showcases a different style from what people usually know me for. After moving to the UK, I grew up in London, and this song makes references to things that were part of London life back in the 2000s.

Striking a chord with your audience while staying true to your artistry can be tricky—how do you navigate that balance?

It’s about kindness and reminding myself not to compare my journey to anyone else’s. I know I’m not yet where I want to be, but I just need to keep improving my craft and keep the faith.

What has been the most unforgettable or career-defining moment for you so far, and how did it shape you as an artist?

Playing two of my favourite venues. Roundhouse and Jazz café. It instilled the belief that I can really achieve greater things.

If you could pass on a single piece of wisdom to aspiring artists, what would it be, and why is it so important?

Collab and uplift other musicians. There is room for all of us to progress and flourish together.

What exciting projects or goals do you have on the horizon, and how are you preparing to level up your artistry?

Next year looking to release my debut EP. Personally just want to increase my visibility as well within the industry.

Lastly, is there anything you’d love to share with your supporters or something on your heart that we haven’t touched on?

I’m beyond grateful for all the support. There have been many times when I’ve been on the verge of giving up, but the words of kindness from my supporters have been the driving force, the fuel that keeps me going.

‘Losing Ground’ ft. MILLE is available now via all major platforms.
