An artist whose music holds no bounds, Cameron Hayes is reputed for her electrifying production and spellbinding lyricism. Marking a pivotal point in her career as her artistry continues to evolve, the singer-songwriter unveils her highly anticipated mixtape ‘The Fault Is Mine’. Bursting with lyrical depth and sonic diversity, the project cements Cameron’s place as one of the UK’s most fearless rising artists, redefining what it means to make boundaryless music.
Having previously lent her pen to household names including Wilkinson, Dimension, Sub Focus, and Notion, it comes as no surprise that The Fault Is Mine radiates emotional honesty and vulnerability. The seven-track project dives deep into the intricacies of Cameron’s journey, exploring themes of love, loss, and self-growth. From its opening to its final note, the mixtape captures the raw essence of a woman coming to terms with her own truth.
The project opens with the pre-released single “Lover, Please Stay”, an open love letter written from the grave, underpinned by a pulsing bassline. The energy quickly shifts with “Overkill”, a sonic explosion that mirrors the chaos beneath her calm exterior. In the powerful title track “The Fault Is Mine”, Cameron takes full accountability for her actions, embracing introspection and self-awareness. “This is probably the most honest I’ve been in my writing,” she shares. “It came from a place of overanalysing everything I’ve done in my life. I’ve not always made the right decisions, I’ve hurt people and I’ve made mistakes. It’s about recognising my flaws and taking responsibility for past, present, and future actions.”
As the mixtape progresses through standout tracks like “Own Me”, which unpacks the push and pull of complicated situationships, and “Who Was I To Want You?”, which confronts the end of a love gone wrong, the listener is pulled deeper into Cameron’s world. The closing two-part piece “Forgive, Forget” explores emotional turmoil and healing, reflecting on manipulation and the courage to move forward. “The first part centres around whether to forgive or forget what’s been done,” Cameron explains. “In the second part, I stand my ground. It’s not about holding on to hate, but refusing to minimise what’s happened. Sometimes, forgiveness isn’t the answer — self-preservation is.”
Through The Fault Is Mine, Cameron Hayes offers more than just music — she offers a piece of herself. “I wanted this mixtape to be a sonic diary of the past few years of my life,” she says. “I wrote these songs to understand my own experiences, but also so others who’ve gone through similar things feel seen, heard, and less alone. Each track sounds different because each emotion is different. This project has healed me in ways I didn’t expect, and I hope it can do the same for someone else.”
Hailing from Reading, Cameron Hayes has been surrounded by music from an early age. Learning piano at just six years old, her natural curiosity soon evolved into songwriting and production. After earning a degree in Contemporary Music, she launched her artist journey with the 2019 Dimension collaboration “Devotion”, followed by a string of acclaimed releases. Her viral moments on TikTok and YouTube earned millions of views, establishing her as a standout voice in the new wave of alt-pop and electronic music.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as Matt Bellamy, Thom Yorke, James Blake, Sampha, Mitski, and Rufus Du Sol, Cameron’s sound blends atmospheric production with deeply emotional vocals. Her 2023 comeback EP Second Best featured fan-favourite “Spend The Night”, which landed on the cover of Spotify’s ‘Massive Drum & Bass’ playlist and gained millions of streams.
Now boasting over 640,000 monthly Spotify listeners and 83,000 YouTube subscribers, Cameron has performed on some of the biggest festival stages including Reading & Leeds, Boardmasters, Victorious, Tramlines, and Rolling Stone Beach in Germany. She has supported major acts such as Placebo, The Beaches, and Oscar and the Wolf, while earning consistent editorial support from Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, and MTV UK.
