Emerging artist MATT V talks individuality, inspirations, future plans and his debut EP project ‘Blur’

MATT V

MATT V has been making music for as long as he can remember. First picking up the guitar aged 7, he became enamoured with everything musical, from theory to performance. Attending a professional music college opened doors for him, and has led to opportunities that have helped him to develop his sound and style, including working with Rita Ora at his college. His debut EP expresses who MATT V is as an artist and is a perfect introduction to the fresh talent.

What inspired you to begin a career in music?

From a very young age all I wanted to be was a musician. I started playing guitar young, and pretty much worked my way up to the point I was writing my own songs, creating melodies, lyrics, harmonies etc.. I guess what inspired me was literally the feeling I had when I listened to music. A sense of freedom, where imagination had no limit.

Your debut EP ‘Blur’ is out now. Please describe the creative process and inspiration behind the project?

The creative process behind Blur was pretty much the idea of a 5 song type album to show people a little bit of the Matt V sound. It has songs that I wrote like 3 years ago. So it really is like the journey I had.

What differs you and your sound from other upcoming artists in the music industry?

Right now I’ll say my music is quite different from most of the music you hear in the UK. I have more of a rock – indie type melodies but on top of a trap/hip-hop beat. Some very nice hooks, lovely to listen to and really helps connect with the lyrics. I try to bring a sense of hope, and positivity through my music. Something we can always use a little more of.

In your own opinion, what is the most meaningful song you wrote? What makes you say that one?

The most meaningful song I wrote would probably have to be Blur, as I talk about how if we want something we need to make it happen, we need to be hungry for what we want, so we can be who we are.

What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue this career?

I would always encourage people to do music, everyone can find themselves in Music. Music is a part of us and always has been, so being involved in music is definitely beneficial as it is also a way that we all connect in a way. Go for it!

What does the foreseeable future hold for you as an artist?

Well, as mentioned previously my debut EP ‘Blur’ is out now, working hard with promo. Blur music video is also out!

After the EP I already have a project that I am dying to drop, so definitely looking forward to that. This is just the beginning, we have a lot planned and cannot wait to release everything!

The ‘Blur’ EP is available now via all major platforms.
