Classy, moody with jazzy undertones: Introducing rising singer-songwriter & producer Moniah and her latest release ‘Spaceman’

Moniah

Singer-songwriter and producer Moniah (pronounced Mo-nye-yah) is an exciting addition to the UK’s Alternative R&B scene, her ethereal sound draws influences from soul and jazz.

Moniah’s new single ‘Spaceman’ cleverly plays with words and personifies the ‘space’ and emotional distance in a relationship. Classy, moody and with jazzy undertones, the listener is transported to her world of grey and displacement.

Inspired by her own journey of gaining confidence to finally pursue music, Moniah’s lyrics are self-reflective and emotionally stimulating. One of her songs is aptly titled ‘Human’ and has the direct lyrics, “you probably won’t be honest, but I’ll ask you anyway”. Her previous single ‘The Exchange’ infuses warm harmonies as it invites you into a world of unconditional love.

Moniah’s music has been featured on radio stations such as BBC 6 Radio, Croydon FM, Hoxton and more. Her music inspirations include Anna Wise, Moses Sumney and James Blake. Moniah has performed at places such as The Moustache Bar and Two Bridges. Back in 2017 she performed as a backing vocalist at London’s South Bank Centre festival and featured in Gospel Choir Soul Sanctuary. The gospel influence stylishly slips into her music, blending with the soul and jazz ambience.

“Music has always been at the heart of my creativity. I began singing from the age of 8, I used to collect blank tapes and record my favourite songs, recognising the charm of music.”

Despite being shy she would also sing for others. Moniah went on to study Performance Studies in sixth form college where she explored musical theatre, learning how music can facilitate captivating storytelling. She eventually went on to study Event Management with Japanese at University of Hertfordshire.

While at university Moniah collaborated with fellow creatives to launch live music and poetry events, this sparked her desire for collaboration. It is no surprise her song ‘Spaceman’ is a stunning collaboration between Lianne La Havas’s engineer, Rob Wilks, Jay Phelps and Moniah herself.

Currently, Moniah is working towards an EP release for 2022. The EP will showcase the potential of this bright talent.

‘Spaceman’ is available now via all major platforms.
