Emerging artist Wav talks individuality, musical influences and the creative process and inspiration behind latest release ‘All About You’

What or who inspired you to begin a career in music?

I’ve always had a musical background. At some point in school I was told I should consider singing and I took it to heart. Ever since I started producing my own music, I’ve seen the possibilities and never stopped since.

What differs you and your sound from other artists in the music industry?

I truly try to make a sound that’s my own. Constantly learn and push boundaries, I want to make a new sound directly associated with me and my artistry.

Your new single, ‘All About You’ is out now. Can you please describe the creative process and inspiration behind the release?

I wanted to discuss addiction. It is a theme a lot of people tackle in real life and I can see it in my environment often. I decided to put a personal twist on the narrative and write the lyrics from the drug’s perspective, as it tries to seduce and manipulate someone into diving back. As much as a person is attracted to their addictions, I do find we give our addictions a certain personality and voice.

In your own opinion, what is the most meaningful song you wrote? What makes you say that one?

My most meaningful is yet to be released. It is called ‘Hell or High Water’ and discusses the feeling of external factors contributing to destiny. I wanted to simulate a feeling of hopelessness in the song and was (in my opinion) successful.

Throughout your musical career, have you experienced any ‘wow’ moments?

Everyday and every second is a wow moment. I try and find the beauty in the small details. Music has allowed me to push back the curtains and notice a lot of things we tend to overlook and underappreciated.

What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue this career?

You started for a reason, keep reminding yourself that.

What does the foreseeable future hold for you as an artist?

I can’t say for sure, but I’m certain it will be a positive thing. I’ve put a lot of work in, I’m not afraid to put in more – but I know it’s going to pay off soon.

Anything else you would like to add?

I appreciate anyone who listens to me and puts in the effort to listen and understand my art. We tend to think music is something easily consumable. However, just like movies and paintings and sculptures, music is to be consumed with care and takes a while to understand. Obviously not always, but music has had a bad reputation recently cause we’ve been treating it as a product rather than a piece of art.

‘All About You’ is available now via Spotify and all major platforms.
