The Silhouettes Project release ‘Play It Back Again’, the sixth offering from their eagerly awaited second album

South London vocalist Meron T, Newham emcee Kieron Boothe, and Nikhil Beats unite in The Silhouettes Project’s latest release, “Play It Back Again” – the sixth offering from their eagerly awaited second album, The Silhouettes Project Vol. 2.

Bringing forth sultry guitar licks and jazz-infused percussion shaped by South Asian heritage artist Nikhil Beats (Finn Foxell, muva of Earth, Xadi), “Play It Back Again” instantly emerges as a warm canvas for Meron T to showcase her captivating vocals in perfect harmony. She laments, “always wondering, how can we be friends? When you, did what you did,” painting a picture of a fading love interest that has left her affinities in disarray. Kieron Boothe then stakes his claim with stylish flows and intricate wordplay, forming a tender connection that elevates the trio’s synergy to dazzling new heights, solidifying their status as a potent force entering the wider consciousness.

Discussing the collaboration, Meron T mentions: “This single was super exciting to make because it was the first track I’ve made with Kieron. After knowing him for a while, it was brilliant to finally lock in and create some magic together. Having already worked with Nikhil and featured on his EP last year, I had confidence in our working relationship. Being comfortable with both of them personally and artistically allowed us to flow, resulting in some serious flavours.”

Kieron Boothe adds: “This was the first time I met Nikhil, and we seemed to gel instantly, resulting in several studio sessions that have led to great music. I aimed to create something outside my comfort zone and a lot more fun than my previous material. I’m proud and excited about this release on The Silhouettes Project Vol. II.”

With a clear aspiration to make music with a profound impact while highlighting the diverse stories emanating from London’s underground scene, The Silhouettes Project is establishing a thriving ecosystem on its own terms. Founded in 2018 by Asher Korner (Asher Kosher) and Jaden Osei-Bonsu (Eerf Evil), the collective has become a vital hub for artists to connect and create, addressing community, alternative industry structures, the grassroots hip-hop scene, and nurturing top-level talent across the creative arts.

Finding sanctuary at the ROOT 73 Studio, the group embodies community engagement at its highest level while exploring a novel industry model that enables them to reinvest funds into apprenticeship schemes for local talents. With a true ethos of artist equality, every artist on the project shares royalties equally, irrespective of their size – a pioneering financial model valuing input over output.

Exemplifying the significance of collaborative spaces, ROOT 73 was established in 2015 as a non-profit arts organisation and an industry-standard recording studio located within the renowned Total Refreshments Centre in Hackney. The space has opened doors for artists, including breakout star ENNY and underground pioneer MANIK MC, offering emerging talent access to high-quality equipment and a creative environment to write, record, and collaborate with like-minded individuals across the creative arts.

By using earnings to support the next generation of youth in music, ROOT 73 funds an apprenticeship scheme called From The Ground Up, which has evolved into a comprehensive development hub for young people to acquire skills in artist management, marketing, event curation, and free studio access to nurture their musical talents. This sustainable infrastructure directly feeds back into the community. The Silhouettes Project stands as a testament to the power of collective determination and continues to challenge the major label setup in the music industry, beckoning new talent from across the city.

The Silhouettes Project unveiled their first album in 2020, championing some of the most exciting emerging artists in the UK, including ENNY, Bel Cobain, Nix Northwest, Jords, Danny Sanchez, Elisa Imperilee, KeepVibesNear, Natty Wylah, and Summers Sons, among others. This pivotal moment propelled their close-knit community into the international spotlight, garnering over 50 million streams, substantial acclaim from tastemakers like THE GUARDIAN, HIGHSNOBIETY, and CLASH, and featured key performances at Glastonbury, the Tate Modern, The Jazz Cafe, and Hackney Church.

The ethos of The Silhouettes Project is one of equality and enduring collaboration within the community. Bringing live music, alternative hip-hop culture, industry opportunities, and resources back to the community, the collective has quietly become one of the most significant projects in the UK and shows no signs of slowing down.
