Inspired by the rhythms of Africa and the diversities of London: ‘King Vaud’ is the hotly anticipated debut EP from British-Mauritian songstress Lavaud

British-Mauritian songstress Lavaud has unveiled her anticipated debut EP ‘King Vaud’, out now via all major platforms on PRMISE LAND.

“My music is a representation of my culture, inspired by the rhythms of Africa and the diversities of London” – Lavaud

A four-track release, ‘King Vaud’ opens with the title track, produced by Nigerian hitmaker Tuzi, a slick, sensual dose of Afrobeats that sets the tone for the rest of the EP. The track is accompanied by a stunning visual, also released on 7th May and shot in Jamaica by British-Nigerian director Christina Nwabugo, which perfectly captures the exotic vibe of the music.

Next up is recent single ‘Oh My’, also produced by Tuzi, a collaboration with Nigerian superstar Reekado Banks and a passionate Afro-tinged R&B jam that sees Lavaud demonstrate her slick linguistic prowess as she effortlessly switches between English and French. Also directed by Nwabugo, the ‘Oh My’ video has already racked up over 300,000 YouTube hits in just over a month. The second half of the EP is no less seductive, with Lavaud’s sensual vocals taking centre stage on the CallMeTheKidd produced ‘Fast Lane’ before things are closed out with the tropical romance of ‘Sweet Lies’, with D-Phelps on the beat.

“As a woman I wanted to create something that was not only real and authentic to me but something that would empower others and change perspective.” Lavaud explains. “In my opinion there is no greater title than ‘Woman’, so why not also have the option to be ‘King’”.

Hailing from Hackney, East London, Lavaud cites the likes of Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin and Beyonce as inspirations for her sound. She received recognition from the MOBO Awards ‘Next Up’ for single ‘Pictures’ before scoring a US ‘Top 20’ urban radio hit with ‘Deep’ and, more recently, dropped ‘In This Room’ – an acoustic single that she wrote, produced and recorded from her bedroom during lockdown that was playlisted by YouTube Music, Apple Music and Tidal amongst others.

A stunning debut EP, ‘King Vaud’ is evidence of an artist brimming with creative allure and sensual energy.
