The elusive young-star surfaces with a joyful house-influenced and synth-driven soundtrack riddled with organic instrumental samples and effective vocals making for the perfect summer backing. With the tipsy, 80’s infused groove providing the perfect pockets for lyrics to dance between, the music and visuals to “Waiting” act as a poignant reminder about staying positive as Jengi plants himself firmly in the spotlight of the contemporary indie-house scene.
Speaking on the track, Jengi said: “The song “Waiting” describes our desires and journey of going back to normal life, the lyrics ‘we’ve been waiting for so long’, says enough. At the beginning, it’s a bumpy vibe, and towards the latter stages, it changes into a dreamy and peaceful ending. The video clip visualizes three emotions of this pandemic; hope, frustration and relief”.
“I just arrived at the bus stop because I have a DJ gig, I’m waiting and it’s okay, I know the bus will arrive soon, I have hope. After a while it takes too long and I’m getting annoyed, the frustration increases and I want to give up, but I keep waiting. Finally the bus arrives and I can play at the club, it’s a big relief.”
The twenty-five-year-old is one of the most captivating artists in the scene right now, amassing close to 9M streams on his official remix of viral-hit “Mine” alongside Bazzi, and his latest single “Get Down” dropping on The Magician’s Magic Tape 100 compilation. Drawing influence from a wide range of genres and sounds, Jengi’s unique presence in the musical landscape has seen him become a Dutch sensa-tion.
