Addressing the struggle of navigating life in an ever-changing environment: Introducing emerging hip-hop collective OSP and their debut release ‘Breathe’

OSP

Having built up an enormous following thanks to dozens of impactful live performances and releases over the years, Reading-based outfit OSP have now announced their plans for their long-awaited debut single ‘Breathe’.

With a sound that looks to borrow heavily from the more traditional side of the hip-hop genre, while also focusing on a contemporary ear throughout, ‘Breathe’ makes for a fresh and exciting introduction to their progressive direction. Filled with adventurous production and killer flows from start to finish, the four-piece look set to become one of the more notable new additions to this year’s new music landscape.

Speaking about ‘Breathe’, they describe the track as “addressing the struggle of navigating life in an ever-changing environment.”

First formed in 2014, the Reading-based brotherhood OSP – comprised of Esa Kwame (rapper, beat maker), J Blackz (rapper, singer-songwriter, beat maker), Silqe (rapper, beat maker), and Subject (producer, engineer) – has always strived to become a positive force within the UK’s hip-hop community. Originally standing for Only Speak Positive, the four-piece earned their mantra through a string of bold and vibrant cuts that looked to deliver a powerful message of tolerance and respect through their work.

While also regularly collaborating with other artists as well as solo material in recent years, the synergy between the artists has been unparalleled ever since they first came together, as they look to deliver a sound that is lacking from the commercial world.

After a short hiatus in recent years, they reformed in the summer of 2021 with the goal of bringing their music to a wider and more engaged audience. Fusing raw and organic production with a smooth and progressive flow, their newest material continues that forward-thinking approach they have always pursued within their aesthetic, garnering a texture that borrows from both retro and contemporary influences alike.

2022 is set to become OSP’s most prolific year to date. With a whole host of dynamic releases arriving in the coming months, their vision of a more diverse direction within the mainstream hip-hop scene is finally maturing, and they aim to place themselves front and centre of this fresh and captivating movement.
