Exploring contemporary themes of love and relationships from the perspective of womanhood: ‘DLUXLIFE’ is the debut album from rising UK R&B artist Charli Taft

UK R&B talent Charli Taft drops her long-awaited, highly anticipated debut album DLUXLIFE – a contemporary love letter to the R&B albums she grew up listening to, released by DiGiDi / The Orchard in conjunction with Deekay Music on Charli’s own independent record label, DLUXLIFE Records.

Charli Taft

A stunning, star-making introduction to Charli Taft and her artistry, DLUXLIFE successfully fuses modern songwriting and nostalgic late 90s/early 2000s R&B to create a refreshing sonic experience dusted with hip-hop flavours. Paying homage to the classic styles established during the heyday of R&B icons like Brandy, Mariah Carey and Aaliyah, DLUXLIFE brings Charli’s own fierce, confident energy to her debut project to firmly establish herself as a new breed of R&B artist with the right kind of old soul.

Exploring contemporary themes of love and relationships from the perspective of womanhood, the record maintains a gorgeous, soulful vibe from start to end – effortlessly taking the listener on a journey through up-tempo hip-hop bangers, catchy mid-tempos that sound like golden age R&B hits, and shimmering, sensual ballads.

On DLUXLIFE Charli says:

“I hope when people hear my album, they will feel like they know me now and understand what I stand for. I’m ready to share my taste, my vision and my experiences with the world so they can come and share my musical universe. Sonically, the album is a collage of my favourite R&B inspirations. It represents a unique time in my life and captures what I set out to achieve when I make music – rich harmony, soulful melodies, heartfelt lyrics and, above all, a tasteful and elevated musical experience. Ultimately, I wanted DLUXLIFE to play like my favourite CDs did back in the day – the kind of album you could play from top to bottom on repeat because every song was a favourite. I love this album to death, and I’ve absolutely poured my heart and soul into the entire process. This is a true passion project born out of a love for music.”

The album is marked by a slew of well-received singles, including “Wish I Could” which instantly evokes the magic of timeless R&B hits, the up-tempo blues bop “Sentimental”, as well as the dreamy Rhodes and hip-hop grooves of “Ride” featuring hotshot NYC rapper Justin Starling. DLUXLIFE is further defined by the bouncy R&B-pop and airy harmonizing on “Butterflies”, seductive late-night sounds of closing number “Leave the Party”, as well as an appearance from Hip-Hop royalty – rapper T3 from the legendary group Slum Village on the bonus remix of Charli’s debut single “Love Like You”.

DLUXLIFE is produced by acclaimed, GRAMMY winning R&B/Hip-Hop producer Daniel Obi Klein (Method Man, Fat Joe). Charli herself also played a key role in the sonic creation of the album by co-writing and playing instruments on every track, putting her years of success to use as an in-demand songwriter for herself this time. The pair collaborated on every aspect of the creative process, executive producing the project together with Obi’s productions serving as the ultimate vehicle for Charli’s vision. To give the album its signature sound, Obi and Charli created their own samples using live instrumentation and focused on making each song expansive by adding multiple layered harmonies, intricate background vocals and bridge sections.

“I love the concept of one artist and one producer working in sync to execute a clear vision. A lot of my favourite albums were made that way. I really believe a strong artist/producer relationship is fundamental to making timeless music.”

A bona fide rising solo star in the R&B sphere, Charli has earned major support from the likes of Complex, Vibe, Billboard, Wonderland and Clash Magazine, alongside spins by legendary radio tastemakers including Trevor Nelson, MistaJam, Nadia Jae and Adele Roberts positioning her as one of today’s most genuinely credible R&B prospects with heavyweight co-signs.

Unveiling a supremely self-assured debut body of work with DLUXLIFE, Charli Taft is just getting started.
