Fast rising Scottish Producer Spencer Ramsay talks individuality, music career advice and debut feelgood, UKG-inspired groover ‘Love With You’

Dance music wonderkid Spencer Ramsay makes his Polydor debut with new single ‘Love With You’. Hailing from the small Scottish border town of Peebles, Spencer Ramsay is an enigmatic young talent who has been making music from the age of ten. Still just 17, he already has an impressive collection of tracks under his belt, with club banger ‘What You Talkin’ About?’ racking up over 1 million SoundCloud plays in three months.

What inspired you to begin a career in music?

I come from a very musical family; my Dad was a DJ, my Auntie is a singer-songwriter and my 2 older brothers produce music. I grew up surrounded by music so I have a natural love for it, so I think I was just inspired by my upbringing.

What differs you and your sound from other upcoming producers in the music industry?

What differs me from other upcoming producers is that I enjoy pretty much all genres of music so my music has many influences. From heavy Drum and Bass to 70s Funk to 90s Hip Hop I love it all.

Your latest release ‘Love With You’ is out now! Can you please describe the creative process and the concept/inspiration behind the track?

With this track I just wanted to create a stomping house track with a homage to the 90s dance scene but with a slightly more modern sound. I liked the idea of having an addictive bassline that drives the track from beginning till end and you can’t really go wrong with that classic house organ sound. I also love playing around with vocals, pitching them up, chopping them etc. and with this track the vocal is really the cherry on top. It will have you singing at the top of your lungs in no time!

Who would you like to work with in the future?

I don’t really have anyone in particular if I’m honest, I’m always down to work with people from different genres and with different styles as I’m always looking to broaden my creative horizons and try new things.

What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue this career?

Just make what feels right to you and don’t pay too close attention to what other people are doing. You shouldn’t be afraid to just put your music out there either, what’s the worst that could happen?

What does the foreseeable future hold for you as a music producer?

I’m just going to keep putting music out, get my name out there and work hard on my live act for when I turn 18.

Possessing bags of crossover appeal, ‘Love With You’ is the work of a young artist destined for big things.
